Mathewsie Saviadjuk

Settlement: Cape Dorset / Kinngait

(1950) — E7-1377

Mathewsie Saviadjuk was born in 1950. He is known for his carvings depicting the natural world as well as legends from Inuit culture. He was elected to the Qikiqtani Inuit Association board in 2016 and was re-elected in 2020. He also served as the mayor of Kinngait.

Saviadjuk is the son of famed carver Joe Jaw. He learned to carve from his father alongside his brothers Pootoogook Jaw, Kingwatsiak Jaw, and Salomonie Jaw. 

Saviadjuk died in 2022.
