Bio:

Ningiukulu (Ningeokuluk) Teevee is a Canadian Inuit artist and writer born on May 27, 1963 in Kinngait, Nunavut. Teevee is the daughter of Joanasie and Kanajuk Salomonie. Her father, Joanasie, was a beloved community leader in Cape Dorset. Her father-in-law is Jamasie Teevee, a graphic artist.

Teevee is self-taught and began her career in the 1990s. She uses ink and coloured pencils as her primary mediums but has experimented with many other mediums over time. Teevee’s work explores contemporary themes as well as Inuit legends and traditions.

Since 2004, over 80 of Teevee’s drawings have been translated into prints for the Cape Dorset annual print collection, making her one of the leading graphic art talents working in Canada today.

In 2006, Feheley Fine Arts hosted Teevee’s inaugural solo exhibition “Ningiukulu Teevee: Drawings.” Her work had been featured in numerous shows and exhibitions in major public galleries and museums, and is included in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery in Winnipeg.

Teevee is also an accomplished children's author. Her first children's book, “Alego,” is an introduction to Inuit tradition and lifestyle and was a nominee for the 2009 Governor General’s Award for children’s literature illustration.

Teevee works full-time for the Department of Housing in Cape Dorset and devotes her spare time to her family and drawing. Her husband, Simeonie Teevee, is a musician who plays with his band at community events in Cape Dorset and at music festivals around Nunavut.
