His sculpture has been included in many exhibitions in Canada, the USA, Germany, France, and is included in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada as well as other significant corporate and private collections. Kelly is a true artist; innovative and dedicated to the art form. He is fascinated by the spirit world and his works depict aspects of the human / spirit relationship. Works by this dedicated artist deal with the transformation; he creates wonderful multi image composition pieces. Not limited by the shape of the stone, fantasy figures seem to float and balance. Kelly has travelled to Hamilton, and to Connecticut, where he was delighted to meet his many collectors. In Cape Dorset, they say that he above all artists has an ability to depict the human face, and express many emotions -he is a master sculptor, and a favourite of the gallery clientele. ------ Resides:Cape Dorset; also lived in Markham Bay Kelli's work has been included in many exhibitions in Germany, Greenland, the United States and Canada. His work is also included in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Civlisation and the National Gallery of Canada. ----------- Collections Amway Enviromental Foundation Collection, Ada, MI Canadian Museum of Civilization, Hull, PQ Inuit Cultural Institute, Rankin Inlet, NU National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, ON Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, MB Credits 1993 Attended a three week sculpture workshop at the Carving Studio, West Rutland, VT ----------- Kellypalik Qimirpik has been enjoying quiet but constant success since his first southern exhibition in 1976. He has been the subject of two solo exhibitions and was published in Masters of the Arctic, a touring exhibition of environmentally themed Inuit art sponsored by the United Nations and drawn from the Amway Foundation collection. Even his small pieces are carved powerfully and sometimes with a sense of whimsy that never becomes superficiality. -------- Exhibitions 2002 Imagination, Canadian Arctic Gallery, Basel, Switzerland 2001 Living Arctic, Inuit Gallery of Vancouver, Vancouver, BC 2001 Spirit of the Walrus, Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto, ON 2000 Die Kunst aus der Arktis: Art in Stone, Canadian Arctic Gallery, Basel, Switzerland 1997 Ashevak Tunnille & Kellypalik Qimirpik Sculpture, Albers Gallery, San Francisco, CA 1997 Faces, Masks, Heads, The Guild Shop, Toronto, ON 1997 Singing & Dancing & Playing, Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto, ON 1997 Kelly Qimirpik, The Arctic Experience Gallery, Hamilton, ON 1996 Emerging Spirit, The Banff Centre, Banff, AB 1995 Inuit Mythology, Arctic Experience, Hamilton, ON 1995 The Birds of Cape Dorset: A Collection of Sculpture by 32 Cape Dorset Carvers, Albers Gallery, San Francisco, CA 1995 Sedna: Spirit of the Sea, Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto, ON 1995 Miniaturen, Inuit Galerie, Mannheim, Germany 1995 Images of Transformation: Kellypalik Qimirpik, Gallery Phillip, Don Mills, ON 1994 Mythic Image, Ancestral Spirits Gallery, Port Townsend, WA 1994 Inuit Art from the Canadian Arctic, Bayly Art Museum, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA 1994 Small Sculptures by Great Artists III, Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto, ON 1994 Kellypalik Qimirpik, Inuit Galerie, Mannheim, Germany 1993 The Theme of Transformation in Inuit Sculpture, The Isaacs/Innuit Gallery, Toronto, ON 1993 Sculpture and Graphics from Cape Dorset, Art Space Gallery, Philadelphia, PA 1992 The Inuit Print and Sculpture 1960-1980, Westdale Gallery, Hamilton, ON 1992 Arctic Ice: Sculptures in Marble by the Artists of Cape Dorset, Marion Scott Gallery, Vancouver, BC 1991 Animals of the Arctic, Arctic Inuit Art, Richmond, VA 1990 Small Sculptures From Across the Canadian Arctic, Feheley Fine Arts, Toronto, ON 1989 White Lords of the Arctic: Bears in Stone and Bone, Arctic Artistry, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 1989 Spirit of the Birds, Gallery of the Arctic, Victoria, BC 1989 Masters of the Arctic: An Exhibition of Contemporary Inuit Masterworks, Amway Corporation, The United Nations General Assembly, New York, NY 1989 Kelly Qimirpik, Eskimo Art Gallery, Toronto, ON 1988 Die Kunst aus der Arktis, Inuit Galerie, Mannheim, in Gutersloh, Germany 1985 - 86 Die Kunst aus der Arktis, Department of Indian & Northern Affairs,Commerzbzank, Frankfurt, Germany 1984 Canadian Inuit Art, Canadian Arctic Producers, City Hall, Nuuk/Godthab, Greenland 1982 Cape Dorset Artists, The Turtle, Niagara Falls, NY 1976 Baffin Island Sculpture Exhibition, Baffin Regional School, Iqaluit, NU Our Land Transforming: Celebrating the Enduring Spirit of the Inuit, Arctic Raven Gallery, Friday Harbour, WA Publications 2005 Cape Dorset Sculpture FEATURED PAGE 35, 110 1993 URGENT PROBLEMS DISCUSSED BY ARTISTS: Inuit Art Quarterly: vol. 8, no. 3 1992 Marion Scott Gallery ARCTIC ICE: SCULPTURES IN MARBLE BY THE ARTISTS OF CAPE DORSET.
