Eliyah's sister Sarah Pootoogook and his wife Iqarlik are also artists. His work is included in many important collections including the Canadian Museum of Civlization and the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art in Texas, U.S. In 1960, Elijah was one of five artists commissioned by Imperial Oil to produce a special folio of prints. In 1967 he was commissioned to produce a mural for the Tundra Restaurant at the Canadian Pavillion of Expo '67 and in 1970 he was invited to attend Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan.
