Audla Pee

Settlement: Cape Dorset / Kinngait

(1920-2002) — E7-1043

Aoudla Pee born 1920 Uleejuat "There were a lot of Eider ducks at this island where I was born.I used to be told that when I went there I should run around because that'swhat people used to do....when you visited the place where you were born, you ran around. You don't hear that nowadays. I remember being carriedon someone's back, while that person was carrying a load. I was sittingon top of that load. I must have been little. We were crossing a river, and I remember I had my hand on top of the water, making it skim over thetop of the water. Here I was playing while someone was carrying me andcrossing the river. We used to have lots of ring seals and harp seals justout there, close by. The baby harp seals used to be killed by clubbingthem on the head. I did not know they were hunted this way until I sawit for myself, and on television. Perhaps that is why there are not asmany these days. We (the Inuit) did not hunt them this way."
