Cape Dorset Suclpture: Derek Norton & Nigel Readingwas adopted and raised by the artists Etidlooie and Etidlooie and Kingmeata Etidlooie. She has been working at both sculpture and drawings for many years, and has exhibited widely.her work is often smaller in scale, with a fulid curvaceous style-------------Omalluq Oshutsiaq is a member of a large family of artists; her adoptive parents were Etidlooie Etidlooie and Kingmeata Etidlooie, two famous graphic artists. Four of her adoptive brothers also carve. She has made her own mark through her remarkable sculptures of women in their many roles, both modern and traditional.-------Omalu Oshutsiakborn in Cape Dorset in 1948, is one of the few women who support their families through their work as sculptors. Omalu was raised in a family of Cape Dorset artists. Her adopted parents are Cape Dorset artists Etidlooie Etidlooie, and Kingmeata Etidlooie. Her adopted brothers, Etulu Etidlui, Eeyoukak Nakoolak, Pukaluk Etungat, andKellypalik Etidlooie are sculptors in Cape Dorset. Omalu's son, Pitseolak Oshutsiak, and daughter Mary Oshutsiak, are also developing sculpture careers.Exhibited in many galleries in Canada and the USA, one of the highlights of Omalu's career was a trip to Switzerland in 1993, where she attended the opening of a solo exhibition at a Zurich gallery. She gave carving demonstrations, and talks about her work, to great popular acclaim.Omalu uses scenes from her daily life as a wife, mother and grandmother as inspirationn. Her pieces are often family scenes, mother and children, or shildren playing.
