Bio:

Timootee "Tim" Pitsiulak was an Inuit artist and hunter born in 1967 in Kimmirut, Nunavut. His parents were Napachie and Timila Pitsiulak; he was the nephew of celebrated artist Kenojuak Ashevak.

Pitsiulak became interested in drawing as a child. He later trained as a carver and participated in jewellery-making workshops offered at Nunavut Arctic College in Iqaluit. 

Pitsiulak was based in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, dividing his time between hunting and making jewelry, sculptures, lithographs, photographs, and drawings. Pitsiulak made drawings of his daily experiences, choosing subjects that reflected his interests: traditional and modern Inuit culture and people, detailed depictions of boats, heavy machinery and airplanes, and Artic wildlife. He consistently challenged himself as an artist, working in varying scales, perspectives and media.

In 2013, his drawing of two belugas and a bowhead whale was featured on Canada's 25-cent coin. In 2016, Pitsiulak was an inaugural participant in the annual Dorset Fine Arts Creative Residency at Open Studio.

Pitsiulak’s works are exhibited in museums and galleries across North America, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
