Garry Wilson

Haisla

Garry Wilson was born in Kemano, British Columbia, but has since relocated to Vancouver. He is a member of the Haisla Nation from the Kitamaat band.

Wilson learned the art of carving through his studies at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design and his apprenticeship with his uncle Henry Robertson. He is inspired by his uncle’s work, as well as the work of Robert Davidson and the contemporary wave of Native painting. Wilson’s work has a traditional context and style, but a distinct personal signature execution of these themes. He works in both traditional and contemporary Native design through his carvings, drum making, and paintings.
