LUCY QINNUAYUAK (1915-1982), E7-1068, Cape Dorset
SPIRITS WITH BEARS, stonecut, 1978, 1/50, unframed, 22" x 28" — 55.9 x 71.1 cm.
Est. $500/700
Provenance: From the Dr. and Mrs. Philip H. Gray Collection of Inuit Art
Note: Of her own work the artists stated, “I never make my drawings balance of both sides even though I try to. After I finish them, I see they are only a little balanced. I put the polar bear in this picture [Spirits with Bear ...] because I heard that somebody really liked another drawing of a polar bear that I made. I have never seen a spirit but I heard a man telling stories of them on the radio.”
-Cape Dorset Annual Graphics Collection 1978, MF Feheley Publishers, 1978, p. 59, pl. 50
