HUNTER HURLING BOLA

WAYNE PUQIQNAK (1975-), GJOA HAVEN / UQSUQTUUQ
HUNTER HURLING BOLA

stone, skin, antler

8.25" x 6" x 4.5" — 21 x 15.2 x 11.4 cm.

Note:
The hunter whirls the bola above the head to lob it at an animal’s legs to ensnare the prey. Here, the hunter is depicted in a dramatic, if not comical, pose: one leg firmly planted on the ground to support the raised limb to indicate a great pivoting motion. The expression of the hunter - a greatly agape mouth - suggests a great ‘yawp’ or exhalation implies that we are witnessing the moment just in advance of the release of the bola.

Estimate: $300—500
