Jimmy Taipanak was born in 1919. He lived a traditional nomadic lifestyle for decades before settling in Baker Lake with his wife Annie Piklak Taipanak and their 10 children. Annie and their son John are both artists as well.
Taipanak’s carvings often depict humans with simplified forms and mask-like faces. These faces often depict traditional Inuit tattoos. He is also known for small animal carvings, particularly those of polar bears.
Taipanak passed away in 2000.
