Provenance:
Acquired directly from the artist by the consigner’s mother who lived and worked in Spence Bay during the 1980’s. Examined and appraised in 1988 by two employees of Hudson Bay Company Northern Stores, Inuit Marketing Service at which time the work was declared “a magnificent devil” and an “excellent benchmark for future spirits by this artist.”
Note:
Ugyuk has created the effect of a demon or devil taking flight by constructing a vertical support for the intricately carved demon to sit atop.
