Tivi Ilisituk

Settlement: Sugluk / Salluit

(1933-2012) — E9-1213

Tivi Ilisituk: He was a well known carver in the village of Salluit. Even in the early 70's he was an established carver and had a show in Ontario at that time. Tivi was a "Star" in the village because he was such an accomplished carver. He had a lot of confidence and refused to sell to the Hudson Bay Co. as other carvers did. He was interested in the Eskimo Co-Op which was just starting up in Sugluk in the early 70s. He is a small, neat meticulous man. Houston North Gallery has followed Tivi Ilisituk's career over the past twenty years. -----------------------
