Note:
In the Winnipeg Art Gallery exhibition publication for Rankin Inlet, Stanley Zazelenchuk spoke of Pierre Karlik as one of the three most influential artists of that region along with John Tiktak and John Kavik. Recognizing that there are significant differences in their styles, firstly that Karlik was a realist which Tiktak and Kavik were not, he also worked in ivory and created large scale works. His work is “characterized by a meticulous concern with technique”.
