Charlie Sivuarapik
HUNTER STRUGGLING WITH SEAL
ATTR: CHARLIE SIVUARAPIK (1911-1968), E9-1460, POVUNGNITUK / PUVIRNITUQ
HUNTER STRUGGLING WITH SEAL
stone, c. 1950
with/without base: 4.5" x 8" x 4.75" — 11.4 x 20.3 x 12.1 cm.; 4" x 6.25" x 4.25" — 10.2 x 15.9 x 10.8 cm.
Note:
The finely incised lines of the nassaq, a traditional crocheted hat, and boot tassels create an astonishingly life-like impression, despite the diminutive size of the work. Networksk of assured lines create the hair that peeks out from the man’s cap; these same quick incisions create wrinkles around the exhausted hunter’s face. This confident sculpting could only be at the hand of an early master from Arcitc Quebec.
Estimate: $200—400
