Allie Kanayuk
Settlement: Povungnituk / Puvirnituq
(1941) — E9-1425
Male E9-1425 Sculpture Allie Kanaju was born on an island near Puvirnituq. He married Mary Asinayaaq in 1964 and they have seven children. He went to school in Great Whale River for six months in 1967. Allie is a full time carver and hunter. He carves a variety of subjects, human figures, bears and birds. He likes to reflect the "old way of life" in his pieces. He likes to carve alone, but occasionally joins a group of carvers. Allie has never been south. He remembers the days of hardship in the north, and feels the co-operative movement has helped his people to become more independent.
