Daniel Inukpuk

Settlement: Port Harrison / Inukjuak

(1942) — E9-882

His exhibitions have taken his sculptures to Europe and Japan. ------------ Northern Rock Susan Gustavison (1999) When we first started carving, there was lots of stone but, these days, it's difficult to find. We have to ; a very long distance for stone, quite a way from Inukjuak. We have to dig quite deep to get the kind of stone that quallunaaq like. It's more diffuclt these days to be a carver. from Inuit Art Quarterly 1998 ----------- Inuit Artist Print Workshop -was married to Mary Inukpuk attended workshops in POV and Great Whale River in the early 70s. he probably cut and printed most of his early work, but by 1975 the group of women printers was doing most of his printing. he told me that he did all ofthe printingfrom hisown images for the 1976 Inoucdjouac collectin, but Thomassie Echaluk said that it was not so. He contends that Daniel was also supervising, and had time to do only the more complicated, multi-coloured images (pers comm.) ----- Daniel Inukpuk Daniel Inukpuk's brother was carver Johnny Inukpuk Jr. In addition to his carving and printmaking, Daniel also worked in the Inukjuak print shop. His wife Mary is also an artist. Also known as Upatitsiak. -------- DANIEL INUKPUKBorn: 1942 Inukjuak, Nunavik (Northern Quebec) Daniel Inukpuk's brother was carver Johnny Inukpuk Jr. In addition to his carving and printmaking, Daniel also worked in the Inukjuak print shop.
