Northern Rocks Susan Gustavison 1999 My interest is to put the story into the stone that I carve. My culture is important to me. therefore I like to tell others, and my own people, about our culture through my art. My children can also learn about our traditions, our culture, through my art. ------------------ Uriash's brother Louie Qingnaqtuq and his father-in-law Nelson Takkiruq are well-known carvers. His sister, Mary Porter, makes wall hangings and his other brother, Leo Hummituq, is a jewellery artist. His wife Lorraine is also an artist, as is their son Wayne. Uriash is the Mayor of Gjoa Haven and a founding member of the Kinqunik Artists' Society.
