The Thunder Bay Art Gallery, which stands on the campus of Confederation College, is the only non-profit, public art gallery in Northwestern Ontario. The gallery has a long history of showcasing work by Indigenous artists. Director Sharon Godwin says that, "we work with artists from Northwestern Ontario, but we also have works from Indigenous artists from every province and territory [except for Nunavut] in our collection." Two exhibitions, both curated by Indigenous artists, will be on view later this year: Piitwewetam: Making Is Medicine and Dakobinaawaswaan (Baby in a Cradleboard).
