Silla and Rise to perform live at museum’s National Indigenous History Month celebrations

Juno-nominated group will perform at the Canadian Museum of History’s grand hall on June 19

Ottawa-based Inuit music group Silla and Rise are slated to perform in the nation’s capital on June 19. 

The performance is part of the Canadian Museum of History’s National Indigenous History Month celebrations, the museum’s website says.

The Juno-nominated group will perform in the Gatineau, Que. museum’s Grand Hall at 2 p.m. 

Nunavik-Kahnawake duo musical duo Twin Flames — composed of Chelsey June and Jaaji — also recently performed their song Human in the same venue.

That Ottawa-based group wrote, performed and recorded the song at the request of UNESCO in 2019, as part of the United Nations’ International Year of Indigenous Languages, in an effort to raise awareness about the rapid decline of Indigenous languages around the world.

Other National Indigenous History Month programming by the Museum of History includes a family workshop on making hide pouches, ​​where families can use locally sourced white-tail deer leather and synthetic sinew to create their own hide pouch to take home. As well, live performances of throat singing and pow-wow style dances on June 18 and 19.
