MacKenzie Art Gallery Appoints First-Ever Indigenous Museum Director in Canada

John G. Hampton has been appointed as director of the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan, and is the first Indigenous person to run a major public art gallery in Canada. Hampton is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, and was director of programs at the MacKenzie before being appointed executive director and CEO. According to Hampton, “the MacKenzie has an exciting future ahead of it, and I intend to bring a spirit of interdependence, innovation, trust, wonder, and respect as we celebrate the deep art history of this land in tandem with the most innovative practices and conversations happening in Canada and beyond.”
