Renowned Inuit artist Pitseolak Ashoona is one of eight candidates shortlisted to appear on the new Canadian $5 bank note.  She was part of the first generation of artists who participated in the Cape Dorset print program. The candidates were selected from a group of more than 600 nominees. Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem says about the nomination process that, "Canadians put forward the names of hundreds of people who have changed Canada for the better." The shortlist criteria are as follows: positive change, national icon, universality, uniqueness, and relevancy. The finalists will be announced in early 2021 by Canada's Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland.
