CBC Indigenous picks up 4 nods and CBC North's Cree Unit wins 3

CBC News scooped up some wins from the Native American Journalists Association's 2022 National Native Media Awards.
The National Native Media Awards celebrate outstanding work of Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists covering Indigenous news in the U.S. and Canada.
CBC Indigenous got four nods for its coverage in professional division III:
Reporter Ka'nhehsí:io Deer won first place for best sports story for print/online with Meet Washiiyeh Jeannotte, a 9-year-old hockey player with sharp stickhandling skills.
Deer also won first place for best feature story for TV for Google doodle pays tribute to Indigenous women's rights advocate Mary Two-Axe Earleyand second place for best news story for TV for The boy behind the cruel nickname.
Producer Francine Compton received an honourable mention for Human rights complaint filed against Indigenous Services claims age and race discrimination for best news story in the print/online category.
Cree Unit gets 3 nods
CBC North's Cree Unit in Quebec won three awards in professional division I:
Dorothy Stewart and Susan Bell picked up first place for best elder coverage in the print/online category with Legends and lessons from Cree grandmother brought to life.
Lachlan Madill, Stephanie Gunner, Diane Icebound, André Gariépy and Guy St-Arunauld won first place for best multimedia for Maamuitaau: Systemic Racism.
Susan Bell and Christopher Herodier won third place for best elder coverage for print/online for From the trapline to a cell phone: Cree elder celebrates 95 years well lived.
Also, Chezney Martin with CBC Hamilton won third place for best environmental coverage for print/online in professional division I for Hunting part of a 'beautiful system' in Six Nations, Ont., among traditional foods highlighted in new study.
Angela Sterritt, Jennifer Norwell, Andrew Lee and Sheila Rider won third place for best feature story for TV in professional division III for CBC The National:Taking back Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc.
Wawmeesh Hamilton, Jodie Martinson, Alison Cook, Ben Shannon, Amy Husser, Althea Manasan, Lakshine Sathiyanathan received an honourable mention for multimedia in professional division III for CBC Radio Vancouver: Tasting Freedom.
An awards ceremony will be held during the National Native Media Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., in August.
